We can smell the Salmon off Eureka!!!!

BY: gary / 0 COMMENTS / CATEGORIES: Fishing Report

Well now we are just waiting for the Salmon season to be announced here in Eureka. It can be as early as May 7th but probably May 21st opener. Can’t wait to get the lines in the water. Halibut opens May 1st and is usually very good once we locate them. As most of you know we have the most experience fishing Pacific halibut out of all the boats on the north coast, and the highest catch rate! Our boat is not huge, but it is very safe and a halibut catching machine! So if you want to come out for a day of fishing with the best chance to catch a halibut book now! Or how about Salmon and Halibut we offer these trips as well. Does it get any better Alaska style fishing right here in Eureka! If you need a place to stay check out the Blue Lake Casino hotel packages we offer. www.bluelakecasino.com. Talk to you soon!

I’ll be posting as soon as we get to splash these monsters in the water. Also it looks great for Salmon fishing this year so hurry and book a trip for prime dates. 2011 Salmon season update: Kenny Priest Fishing the Northcoast

It’s looking more and more like the North Coast, and all of California for that matter, could once again be in for a full-length salmon season. The Department of Fish and Game held their annual salmon abundance meeting Tuesday in Santa Rosa, where discussions centered on actual numbers from the 2010 season and to project the number of salmon swimming in coastal waters in 2011. The agency projected an ocean population of 729,000 Sacramento River fall run Chinook salmon, which is up from a 2010 projection of 245,000 fish. The Klamath River has also seen an increase in ocean population, with, this year’s numbers projected to top 370,000, up from a forecast 331,500 in 2010. What this all means is Humboldt County could see a start to the salmon season as early as mid-April. Next up, the Pacific Fishery Management Council is set to meet Saturday in Vancouver, WA to consider its recommendations for the length of this year’s salmon season, with a final decision to come later in the spring. For more information, visit www.pcouncil.org/salmon/stock-assessment-and-fishery-evaluation-safe-documents/preseason-reports/2011-preseason-report-i.
